Planning on beating the heat at a RI state beach this week 🌡🏖 ?
Remember to only swim in designated swimming areas and always listen to safety announcements and posted signage. Parents and guardians should monitor children at all times while swimming or near the water, don’t enter the water if you can’t swim, know your physical limits, and never swim alone. DEM uses a colored flag system to alert beachgoers of ocean conditions at Rhode Island state surf beaches, which are updated throughout the day as water conditions change. Learn more information on the flag system.
Patrons visiting a State Saltwater Beach may see open spaces in closed parking lots during very busy days. Although this can be frustrating, State Park staff monitor the available space on the sand and may close parking lot entrances to prevent overcrowding, ensuring lifeguards and first responders have space to respond to water emergencies and that beach facilities can support the number of people on a given day. These lot closures are at the discretion of beach staff, who closely monitor available space on the beach and reopen lots as space becomes available. Check the near real-time status of our major beach parking lots before you head to the beach.
