Misquamicut State Beach: Parking Lot Entrance Project

Aerial map showing the entrance location for the parking lot at Misquamicut Beach located to the west of the regular location during construction

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) is working to improve access to the parking lot for Misquamicut State Beach. The project will expand the number of entry lanes from three to eight to support faster vehicle processing and help reduce traffic congestion along Atlantic Avenue during the beach season.

Project Overview

November 2025 – April 2025:

  • During construction, the beach will remain open to the public, but parking will be limited to the grass and gravel lot located at the far west end of the main parking area. All other entrances and the main exit will be closed, with access available only through the designated entry point to the grass lot.
  • For your safety, please avoid walking through the active construction area while work is underway. DEM appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as we make these important improvements to enhance your beach experience.

Project Details

  • Design:  Laura Marcolini & Associates, a Cumberland, RI-based design firm, prepared the design plans
  • Construction: Dubon Masonry Construction, LLC, a Rhode Island-based company, is performing the work
  • Funding: The project is primarily funded by $1.825M in Rhode Island Capital Plan (RICAP) Funds
  • Timeline: Completion is anticipated by April 2026
