State of Rhode Island, Rhode Island State Parks ,

Date:

Location: Beavertail Aquarium at Beavertail State Park in Jamestown

The RI State Parks Naturalist Program invites you to experience the magic of bioluminescence!

We will have a mini darkroom set up for viewing the glowing properties of ctenophores, also called comb jellies. Ctenophores are the oldest creatures on earth, and scientists think they adapted their glowing properties to ward off predators. They require full darkness to glow, so this is a rare opportunity to see comb jellies light up without staying up late.

The Aquarium will be open till 7:30 and the darkroom will be open as long as supplies (comb jellies) last. Come watch the sunset and enjoy a glowing evening at the aquarium.

Please note: We cannot guarantee that we will have comb jellies available at this event. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we work with the rhythms of nature to make this experience possible.
