Join the RI State Parks Naturalist Program for a fascinating night of community science featuring Horseshoe crabs! We will search for tagged crabs, tag any untagged crabs, and count Horseshoe Crabs for the US F&W Service monitoring program.
Meet at the East Beach Parking Lot in Charlestown, RI. We will be conducting the survey/tagging on the Ninigret (Salt Pond) side.
Please bring bathing suits, water shoes, towels - even wetsuits, or waders! Bug spray, flashlights, and headlamps are also welcome. Be aware: There are sometimes jellyfish in the water in the salt pond, and long pants, you feel comfortable getting wet, might be the best option to protect from itchy stings.
If you've attended our other Horseshoe Crab Surveys, you'll notice that this survey is more geared toward looking for previously tagged crabs, although we will be tagging a few more crabs.
This event is capped at a maximum number of participants, and registration is required at https://riparks.ri.gov/horseshoe-crab-event-signup
If the event is full, please feel free to join the waitlist.
